The WHO ACTION Trial is  a multi-country, multi-centre, two-arm, parallel, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial of antenatal corticosteroids for women at risk of imminent preterm birth in health facilities in low-resource settings. The trials’ aim is to determine whether antenatal corticosteroids are safe and efficacious for women at risk of imminent birth in early and late preterm periods in health facilities in low-resource settings, and lead to improved newborn outcomes. ACTION I trial has been ongoing in our 4 Kenyan sites (Kiambu, Thika, Mombasa, Nakuru) since October 2018.

The ACTION trial is being conducted in 5 countries (Kenya, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India). The study PIs from the five countries met to review progress of the ACTION trials including recruitment, data collection and safety monitoring across the 29 hospitals participating in the trial.
