Dr. Lauryn Mengesa Busolo, an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Mmed Year 3 postgraduate student at The University of Nairobi, Faculty of Health Sciences - presented her abstract that was selected for presentation at the 7th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Bogota, Colombia and was also selected for the Emerging Voices for Global Health Program (EV4GH) that took place at Medellin, Colombia ahead of the conference (31st Oct - 4th Nov 2022).

Heat-Stable Carbetocin versus Oxytocin to Prevent Hemorrhage after Vaginal Birth

Postpartum hemorrhage is the most common cause of maternal death. Oxytocin is the standard therapy for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage, but it requires cold storage, which is not available in many countries. In a large trial, we compared a novel formulation of heat-stable carbetocin with oxytocin.
