Dr Kihara Anne Beatrice  meets  Dr Jeff Smith Deputy Director of Implementation research and demonstration

Dr. Anne Beatrice Kihara (President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2021 to 2023)  meets  Dr. Jeff Smith - Deputy Director of Implementation research and demonstration to scale of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on 1st April 2022.

AOAC training (Advanced Obstetric and Anesthetic Care Course) concluded

Good morning colleagues 

We’ve just concluded the AOAC training (Advanced Obstetric and Anesthetic Care Course) in which a total of 89 residents have been trained.

We have 15 TOTs with 4 assigned to lead the team:

Dr Charles Njoroge

Dr Neera Bhatt 

Dr Ayda Wanjiku

Dr Rita Arogo.

These can be used should we need to train the midwives or other hospital teams.

Advanced Obstetric Care (AOAC) training for postgraduate students

Postgraduate students at the department were undertaken through Advanced Obstetric Care (AOAC) training on 22nd February, 2022.

The AOAC training was conducted by a team from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).

Dr. Kihara elected FIGO president

Dr. Ann Beatrice Kihara was elected president of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2021 to 2023.

FIGO is a professional organization that brings together obstetrical and gynecological professional societies from 132 countries from around the globe. 

Prof. E.J. Cheserem takes over as new chair

Prof. Eunice Jeptoo Cheserem is the new Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, taking over from Prof. Omondi Ogutu.

Prof. Cheserem is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Nairobi and a Specialist Obstetrician Gynaecologist, Kenyatta National Hospital Nairobi.

Department conducts postgraduate intake exam online

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology successfully held its inaugural online postgraduate intake examination on the 28th July, 2020.

The examination consisted of a written multiple choice paper followed by an oral viva by a panel of examiners.

The online examination was conducted in line with the measures recommended for continuation of teaching and learning at the University of Nairobi while preventing the spread of corona virus disease (COVID -19) that led to the closure of academic institutions hence disrupting learning.

Prof. Jaoko honoured for role in fight against HIV/AIDS

Prof. Walter Jaoko, Director KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research was one of the ten individuals who were honoured at the Ten out of Ten (1O/10) Awards held at the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster, London on 9th September, 2019.

The Ten out of Ten Awards aims at facilitating an important conversation about the intersection that must converge in order to meet the UN targets of globally ending all new HIV diagnosis by 2030.
